These days positive sayings are everywhere you look. The power of words has increasingly been taught by many a life coach and affirmations are a popular tool for self-inspiration. So much so they have become a big part of home décor. You’ll be able to find decorative phrases in any store that sells decorations. “Live, laugh, love,” “Everything happens for a reason,” and “All you need is love,” are just a few examples.
We all have sayings that are unique to us and our family that you will not find in any store. For instance, my Mom signed all her cards “Love you much.” To this day, it is one of my favorite sayings.
My daughter also recognized how much that phrase meant to me. One day she took one of the cards my mom had written and had a charm made for me with that saying in my mom’s handwriting. She gifted me the charm the Christmas after my mom had passed. Needless to say, I cried when I opened the gift. Even now it brings me a sense of warmth and connection when I wear it.
Love notes aren’t just for Valentine’s Day. They are everywhere in our lives. You can find special love notes in some pretty unexpected places. Whether it’s from your child asking “how many sleeps,” an affirmation you say to yourself, a pet name for your loved one, or a lyric from your favorite song, words can bring you back to a place of joy, peace or laughter. Example: “Frog in a blender” (don’t ask!)
Words are powerful, inspiring, reflective, and entertaining.
Here is a quick and easy
4-step tutorial on creating your own inspiring Love notes:
Let's get started!
Step 1: Gather supplies. Be sure to sand any wood scraps to create a smooth surface.
Step 2: Paint your surface to the desired coverage. Two coats usually works best, as long as it looks good to you. Then you'll have to put the brushes down and let it dry before moving on to step 3.
Step 3: Choose any quote or saying that has meaning to you. Position the words on your wood surface. Trace if using words printed on paper. Outline if you are using stencil.
Step 4: Paint the words outlined or traced from step 3. This is when you can clean up the writing and make sure it looks the way you want. Let it dry and then seal it if you so desire.
Variations on backgrounds
You don't have to stick with a plain background. If you're feeling adventurous, try these designs:
